The Crown City of Karnataka, Bidar, is well-known for its rich heritage and whispering monuments. It has a major significance in the history of Karnataka. Bidar is considered among one of the backward districts and to uplift the quality of higher education in the district, the Government of Karnataka has established Bidar University at Bidar and was inaugurated by the then Honorable Chief Minister Shri. Basavaraj Bommai on 28/03/2023.
The university is spread over an area of 322.18 acres and the university campus is named as Gnyana Karanji located at Halahalli(K) in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district of Karnataka. The university consists of Science, Commerce, Arts, and Linguistics faculties and offers Masters Programs in Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Sugar Technology, Commerce, Social Work, Women’s Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Kannada, English, and Urdu. A total of 124 colleges (Govt. Aided & Private) fall under the affiliation of Bidar University. Among them,100 UG and PG colleges are currently offering BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, and B.Voc. courses, whereas 23 colleges are offering B.Ed courses.
Bidar University in the current academic year (2023-2024) has started MBA, MCA, and MSc in Botany, Zoology, and Physics. Currently, around 600 students are pursuing post-graduation in the campus; more than 80 qualified teaching and skilled non-teaching staff are serving in the university.
In the year 1996-97, Gulbarga University started the Post-Graduate Centre at the Gnyana Karanji campus, and over the last 27 years, the Post-Graduate Centre has been offering PG courses to meet and to cater to the need for higher education in this region. With the establishment of Bidar University, the objective of providing quality higher education for students of this region will be carried out with greater zeal and determination.
Currently, the university has Chemistry, Computer Science, and Sugar Technology laboratories; hostels, and vehicle facilities for the students. Bidar University officials have initiated the process of starting new laboratories of another discipline, modernizing and updating the current laboratories, providing ICT-enabled classrooms, and building a State-of-the-art university infrastructure in forthcoming days.
Bidar University library which acts as an information and knowledge hub for its students and faculty has a very good document collection. The library consists of over 9000 books of various courses, e-content, regular magazines, and journals. The library has a well-furnished, spacious, and quiet reading room for the users to study. The campus is completely Wi-Fi enabled for promoting digital education. Giving prominence to the safety of the students at the university campus, well-equipped CCTV cameras are installed and security personnel are been made
