Kalyana Karnataka, formerly known as Hyderabad Karnataka, is a culturally rich and historically significant region located in the southern part of the Indian state of Karnataka. This region has a unique historical background, as it was once part of the Kingdom of Hyderabad, ruled by the Nizams, and also had connections to the Madras Presidency during the British colonial era.

The primary language spoken in Kalyana Karnataka is Kannada, and the region has made significant contributions to Kannada literature. Kannada literature encompasses a vast body of written work in the Kannada language, which belongs to the Dravidian language family. It is primarily spoken in Karnataka and is written in the Kannada script.

Kalyana, a village that existed in the 12th century, holds historical importance in the region. During this time, the renowned poet, philosopher, and statesman Basaveshwara established the Anubhava Mantapa in Kalyana. This institution is often considered the world’s first parliament, where intellectuals and scholars gathered to discuss various aspects of society and spirituality.

The Kalyana Karnataka or Hyderabad-Karnataka region includes seven economically disadvantaged districts in Northern Karnataka: Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal, Yadgir, Vijaynagar, and Bellary. These districts have been the focus of various development initiatives to uplift the living standards of the local population and promote economic growth.
